The SSTUWA Country Matters Working Party are continuing  housing as a key issue, in 2009.

(i)An SSTUWA Country Housing Policy is being developed; and
(ii)A Housing Campaign is underway, with both short and long term goals.

The Housing Campaign’s first objective is to gather information on issues associated with housing provision for teachers and administrators in country regions.

Please help by:

  • putting this as an item on your branch and staff meeting agendas in 2009
  • provide a copy of the Country Housing Matters document to all staff members
  • make readily available in your staff room copies of the SSTUWA COUNTRY HOUSING CAMPAIGN – Conditions Report

house-a-007.jpgIf anyone has an issue that has occurred earlier in 2008 and they wish to send in a report, please encourage them to do so.

This information will be used to develop an initial report on housing issues for the Country Matters Working Party. .

REMEMBER …without a picture of issues built from the evidence provided from the field, progressing this matter will be difficult.

The Country Matters Working Party was formed within the SSTUWA structure in the late 1990’s with the aim to improve the working and living conditions of country teachers.

Work of the committee has helped the Union achieve the introduction of the Difficult to Staff allowance (now called the Country Teaching Program) and the accessing of the Remote Teaching Service into Agreements instead of individual contracts.

The CMWP is made up of country district rank and file members that ensure continued country and rural influence in Agreements and the Educational Agenda.

Currently the CMWP has undertaken a Housing Campaign in 2009 while continuing to ensure that country members have a strong voice in the SSTUWA.

If you wish to be involved in this committee please fill in a nomination form which can be found in this section.
