The position of Women's Contact Officer was established in 1995, following discussions and recommendations from the 1994 and 1995 Women's Conferences.

The position has been established to encourage women members to participate at a branch level, to disseminate information to women members and to feed back information relating to women's issues to the Women's Officer.

The role of the Women's Contact Officer is as follows:
  • To encourage women teachers to become union members and encourage attendance and participation in union activities
  • To disseminate information to members on women's issues, equal opportunity, social justice etc
  • To identify problem areas for women members seeking promotional positions
  • To participate in the unions' women's networks/activities

If you are interested in being a Women's Contact Officer please speak to the union delegate at the school to ensure the position is vacant and then you can have this endorsed at the branch level.

SSTUWA Anti-Violence Campaign

In the first weeks of Term 3 the Rep received an envelope of information from the Union. Included in this was information on the SSTUWA Anti-Violence Campaign. I hope you have a relaxing term break. This is the fourth newsletter for 2008. With a new government in place it is important for members to be informed about what the SSTUWA is planning and for members to be fully engaged in the Union’s campaigns.

It is also important to keep yourself informed and up to date with the processes of the next agreement. This information can be accessed through the Union's website www.sstuwa.org.
